HI SB1346

Amends the probationary period requirements for licensed charter school teachers who are not yet tenured when entering or returning to the Hawaii Department of Education.

Removes the previous statutory limit of one year (two semesters) of probation for charter school teachers and instead requires them to serve probationary periods according to department policies, practices, and collective bargaining agreements.

Removes the exemption that had allowed tenured Department of Education teachers transferring to charter schools to avoid probationary periods, instead requiring them to comply with applicable collective bargaining agreements.

Takes effect on July 1, 2030.
