Department of Health must accept FDA-approved, CDC-recommended tuberculosis blood tests as an alternative to the Mantoux tuberculin skin test for obtaining a tuberculosis examination certificate.

Expands testing options for individuals who received the bacille Calmette-Guerin (BCG) tuberculosis vaccine, oppose tuberculin injection, or find returning for a second skin test appointment to be a hardship.

Amends Hawaii Revised Statutes Section 302A-1154 to require school tuberculosis clearance documentation to comply with both department rules and applicable law.

Department of Health must update administrative rules to include FDA-approved, CDC-recommended TB blood tests as an acceptable diagnostic alternative.

Existing rules and procedures regarding the Mantoux tuberculin skin test and chest x-rays remain in effect until amended to reflect the new blood test option.
