HI SB819

Allows schools and classes to participate in fundraising or charitable activities with 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations registered under Hawaii law as part of school projects when activities benefit student learning.

Requires the Department of Education to adopt reasonable, objective criteria for selecting fundraising or charitable activities that demonstrate benefit to student learning.

Mandates that selection criteria strictly prohibit coercion or pressuring of students or their families to participate in fundraising activities.

Takes effect on July 1, 2015.
