Request that the City and County of Honolulu adopt building codes that preserve historic architecture in communities throughout Oahu.

Acknowledge the City and County's past development of special area plans for neighborhoods including Ewa Villages, Waipahu, Kalaeloa, Aiea-Pearl City, and others between 1992 and 2011.

Recognize urban design plans adopted for residential and professional areas including Wahiawa (1998), Kapolei (2007), and other locations that provide frameworks for site planning and land use.

Note that urban design plans balance development with maintaining unique community identity and can be adapted for rural town communities seeking to preserve historic character.

Direct certified copies of the resolution be transmitted to the Board of Land and Natural Resources, Mayor of Honolulu, and Director of the Department of Planning and Permitting.
