S.R. NO. 49 - Hawaii School for the Deaf and Blind

• Department of Education is requested to review the need for the Hawaii School for the Deaf and Blind, which serves Hawaii students ages 3-20 who are deaf, hard-of-hearing, blind, partially-sighted, or deaf-blind.

• Department must determine whether students currently attending the Hawaii School for the Deaf and Blind can be integrated into their home schools.

• Department of Education shall submit findings, recommendations, and any proposed legislation to the Legislature no later than 20 days prior to the 2016 regular session convening.

• Hawaii School for the Deaf and Blind provides American Sign Language bilingual-bicultural immersion programs and operates as a tuition-free public school.

• Certified copies of the resolution are to be transmitted to the Board of Education Chairperson, Superintendent of Education, and the Hawaii School for the Deaf and Blind School Community Council.
