H.B. 1209 Summary

• Expands enterprise zone designation to include an additional six areas in the state within one-half mile of a proposed or existing rail transit station, beyond the existing six areas per county limit.

• Adds a new criterion for enterprise zone qualification: areas within one-half mile of a proposed or existing rail transit station, in addition to the existing income and unemployment criteria.

• Establishes a new "Economic Development for Growing Economy" (EDGE) business category for for-profit enterprises located within one-half mile of a proposed or existing rail transit station to qualify for enterprise zone benefits.

• Allows qualified businesses to meet EDGE criteria by increasing or perpetuating economic development along proposed or existing rail transit stations, in addition to existing employment growth or agricultural production requirements.

• Effective date: July 1, 2015.
