HI HB1461

Establishes an alternative school program for juveniles in the justice system or other at-risk youth aged 14 or older who struggle in traditional school settings, with focus on Leeward Oahu and metro-Honolulu areas.

Requires the Department of Education to develop criteria and processes for enrollment, referral, and placement of youth within the alternative school program.

Appropriates unspecified funds from general revenues for fiscal years 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 to cover facilities, curriculum, supplies, and staff hiring for the program.

Directs the Department of Education to expend appropriated funds for program implementation and ongoing education of justice-involved juveniles and other youth.

Takes effect July 1, 2015.
