Changes Hawaii Revised Statutes Section 346-231(a) to grant the Department of Human Services discretion to seek orders for immediate protection of vulnerable adults rather than requiring them to do so.

Modifies language from "shall seek" to "may seek" an order for immediate protection when a vulnerable adult appears to have incurred abuse or is in danger of abuse if immediate action is not taken.

Applies to situations where the vulnerable adult consents to the order or where the department has probable cause to believe the vulnerable adult lacks capacity to make decisions concerning their person.

Takes effect upon approval.
