Appropriates $850,000 from general revenues for fiscal year 2016-2017 to assist dislocated workers in Maui county resulting from the closure of Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Company and Makena Beach and Golf Resort.

Funds support job training and preparation activities including computer literacy, job search assistance, skill assessments, vocational counseling, remedial education, vocational training, and on-the-job training.

Covers support services such as assistance with work tools, safety shoes, and job certification fees for dislocated workers.

Expended by the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations for workers who do not qualify for federal Trade Adjustment Act assistance despite the loss of over one thousand jobs.

Takes effect July 1, 2016.
