HI HB52

Requires all persons seeking state financial assistance for post-secondary education to be in compliance with the federal Military Selective Service Act.

Denies eligibility for loans, grants, scholarships, tuition waivers, or other state-provided educational financial assistance to those not registered with Selective Service.

Provides exceptions for individuals under 18 or over 26 years old, active duty military members, non-citizens, residents of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands or Northern Mariana Islands, and those with documented reasons for exemption under federal law.

Establishes the "Selective Service Registration Awareness and Compliance Act" as a new chapter in the Hawaii Revised Statutes.

Takes effect on July 1, 2018.
