General Assistance program will exhaust all appropriated funds before the end of the fiscal year and cannot maintain the current maximum $348 per month benefit to approximately 5,752 disabled recipients.

Current assistance grant for disabled individuals equals 37.1 percent of the 2006 federal poverty level and is critical for individuals with no other viable means of support.

Department of Human Services will expend appropriated funds under a block grant structure where maximum allowance per recipient is determined by dividing total appropriation by number of recipients.
