HCR 115 Summary

• Requests the Department of Public Safety to consult with the Department of Accounting and General Services and State Capitol Management Committee to develop a master security plan for the State Capitol building.

• Security plan should include metal detectors, x-ray baggage screening, and other prudent security measures at public entrances.

• Directs the Department of Public Safety to report on the security plan status, including any proposed legislation, to the State Capitol Management Committee and Legislature no later than twenty days before the 2017 Regular Session convenes.

• Notes that 28 states currently use walk-through metal detectors at capitol building entrances and that Hawaii's judiciary already requires metal detector screening and baggage x-rays for court visitors.
