H.C.R. NO. 133 - After-School Programs

• Request the Department of Education to convene a working group by July 1, 2016 to review after-school programs in Hawaii's public middle and intermediate schools.

• Working group must inventory existing programs, analyze current costs and funding sources, and provide recommendations to improve availability and quality of after-school programs.

• Include recommendations on promoting collaboration between agencies and stakeholders and developing efficient ways to address funding, logistics, and outcomes for structured after-school programs.

• Superintendent of Education to chair the working group with required members including a school principal, Human Services Director, police representative, and representatives from 21st Century Community Learning Centers, Hawaii P-20 Partnerships, After-School All-Stars Hawaii, Kamehameha Schools, and the private sector.

• Department of Education must submit findings and recommendations, including proposed legislation, to the Legislature no later than twenty days before the 2017 Regular Session convenes.
