H.C.R. 164 - Zika Virus Prevention and Control

• Request the Governor to seek funding for and mount an aggressive vector control effort to attack and eradicate Aedes aegypti mosquito populations on Hawaii Island, and to limit distribution of Aedes albopictus mosquitoes.

• Request the President of the United States and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to list Zika virus as a communicable disease eligible for federal isolation and quarantine measures.

• Request the Federal Aviation Administration to promote Zika virus symptom awareness to airlines traveling from affected regions to the United States, and to develop protocols for potential isolation or quarantine of passengers exhibiting Zika symptoms upon arrival.

• Request Hawaii's congressional delegation to pursue federal funding to combat Zika virus vectors and limit disease spread through both vector transmission and sexual transmission.

• Direct certified copies of the resolution be transmitted to the President, Governor, Hawaii's congressional delegation, Director of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Federal Aviation Administration.
