Department of Education's Office of Hawaiian Education requested to conduct a study on expanding Hawaiian language instruction access in all public schools statewide.

Study should determine how to restructure K-12 Hawaiian language curriculum, best accomplish expansion throughout the public school system, and whether instruction should be conducted through the Hawaiian Studies program or alternative means.

Research topics include current structure and pedagogy of Hawaiian language courses, necessary resources for statewide access, student-driven learning trends, and strategies to enhance instruction across different campuses.

Department of Education's Office of Hawaiian Education must submit a report with findings, recommendations, and proposed legislation to the Legislature no later than twenty days before the 2017 Regular Session.

Certified copies to be sent to the Superintendent of Education, Board of Education, Office of Hawaiian Affairs, Kamehameha Schools, and Hawaiian language and civic organization leaders.
