S.B. 2156 Summary

• Authorizes the Department of Land and Natural Resources to enter into the Interstate Wildlife Violator Compact or similar agreement with other states for mutual enforcement of hunting, fishing, trapping, and wildlife-related laws across jurisdictions.

• Prevents wildlife violators who lost privileges in other member states from obtaining hunting or fishing licenses in Hawaii, and prevents Hawaii violators from engaging in those activities in other states.

• Requires the DLNR Division of Aquatic Resources to conduct a comprehensive statewide science-based assessment of ocean resources and establish a management plan including baselines, monitoring, and periodic reviews.

• Appropriates funds from general revenues for fiscal year 2016-2017 to the DLNR to enter into the interstate wildlife violator compact or similar agreement.

• Takes effect on July 1, 2051.
