Request the Department of Land and Natural Resources to negotiate earnest acquisition of the makai lands of Kapua in south Kona, Hawaii island, either through purchase on behalf of the State or perpetual lease.

The makai lands comprise at least 6,000 privately owned acres classified as agricultural or conservation land with significant historical, archaeological, and cultural resources including a hōlua slide, ancient coastal trail, and Native Hawaiian village sites.

The lands include four parcels covering over 7,780 acres within agricultural and conservation state land use districts, two of which sit adjacent to the Manuká Natural Area Reserve, the State's largest natural area reserve.

Preserve the pristine condition of the Kapua area for future generations while maintaining agricultural and conservation lands in the region.

Direct transmission of a certified copy of the resolution to the Chairperson of the Board of Land and Natural Resources.
