Request the Department of Health to conduct a comprehensive study on sepsis incidence and mortality rates throughout Hawaii.

Study must examine barriers to quality sepsis care, compile statewide mortality data, and review potential links between dengue shock syndrome and sepsis cases in Hawaii County.

Department of Health must assess national sepsis treatment models, develop recommendations for early recognition and treatment in hospitals, and improve quality measures and public education about sepsis.

Study should identify barriers to addressing sepsis costs and make recommendations to improve sepsis prevention and treatment strategies.

Department of Health must submit findings, recommendations, and any proposed legislation to the Legislature no later than twenty days before the 2017 Regular Session begins.
