HI HB1294

Directs the Director of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism to establish an energy efficiency task force focused on building and energy codes and standards for commercial buildings.

Task force shall include representatives from the state energy office, state building code council, county building officials from all four counties, structural engineers, architects, the public benefits fee administrator, and other energy efficiency experts selected by the director.

Task force must submit a report to the legislature and state building code council by January 31, 2018, including recommendations on new building codes, air curtain technologies, design standards for new construction, and energy efficiency standards for commercial buildings.

Task force members serve without compensation and are exempt from chapter 92, Hawaii Revised Statutes open meetings requirements.

Task force terminates on June 30, 2018.
