Appropriates $75,000 from general revenues for fiscal year 2017-2018 to the Department of Accounting and General Services for updating state building code standards for hurricane mitigation.

Funds support the state building code council's adoption of 2012 International Building Code hurricane and earthquake resiliency standards and Hawaii-specific amendments required under state law.

Grant allocation includes $60,000 for consultant services to assist with rulemaking process under Hawaii Revised Statutes Chapter 91, and $15,000 for contract management by the department.

Federal Emergency Management Agency will reimburse the State up to $75,000 for project costs, with volunteer council members providing an additional $25,000 in-kind match.

Takes effect July 1, 2017, and enables the state building code council to fulfill its obligation to update the state building code every six years (last update in 2010).
