University of Hawaii shall conduct a study on the effects of sunscreen used by swimmers and ocean users on Hawaii's coral reefs.

Study shall include recommendations on how to mitigate detrimental effects to coral from sunscreen while considering the impact on residents and visitors who use sunscreen.

Appropriates funds from general revenues for fiscal year 2017-2018 to conduct the study (specific amount left blank in bill text).

University of Hawaii must submit a preliminary report to the legislature no later than twenty days before the 2018 regular session and a final report no later than twenty days before the 2019 regular session.

Act takes effect July 1, 2017.
