HI SB1008

Creates a new petty misdemeanor offense for criminal trespass onto State Department of Transportation lands.

Prohibits entering or remaining on improved DOT land when the land is closed to public use with posted closure hours, or when marked "Government Property - No Trespassing" with signs at least two inches tall placed at reasonable intervals.

Prohibits entering or remaining on DOT land on or under state highways that display "Government Property - No Trespassing" signs meeting the same specifications.

Defines "improved state department of transportation land" to include structures, buildings, facilities, harbors, and airports, but excludes minor improvements like utility poles, signage, and maintenance activities such as forest plantings or tree removal.

Takes effect on July 1, 2017.
