SB 1037 Summary

• Amends Hawaii firearm permit denial procedures to require the issuing authority to notify the prosecuting attorney, attorney general, U.S. Attorney's Office, and department of public safety within ten business days when an applicant is denied a permit due to federal or state firearms prohibitions.

• Requires the issuing authority to notify the court that issued a protective or restraining order within three business days if the permit denial was based on such an order under section 134-7(f).

• Mandates the department of public safety to notify an applicant's probation or parole officer when a permit application is denied due to a prior criminal conviction, if the applicant is currently serving a term of probation or parole.

• Makes a minor grammatical correction, changing "which" to "that" in section 134-2(f) regarding rifle and shotgun transfers.

• Takes effect May 22, 2050.
