University of Hawaii shall conduct a study on the effects of sunscreen used by swimmers and ocean users on coral reefs in Hawaii waters.

Study shall include recommendations on how to mitigate detrimental effects to coral caused by sunscreen, considering both coral reef protection and impacts on residents and visitors using sunscreen.

An unspecified amount of general revenues is appropriated to the University of Hawaii for fiscal year 2017-2018 to conduct the study.

University of Hawaii must submit a preliminary report to the legislature by twenty days before the 2018 regular session convenes, and a final report by twenty days before the 2019 regular session convenes.

Act takes effect July 1, 2017.
