HI SB1315

Requires all health insurance policies issued or renewed on or after January 1, 2018, to include coverage for Native Hawaiian culture-based activities including canoe paddling, hula, and lua that have demonstrated effectiveness in managing weight, cardiovascular health, diabetes, and chronic kidney disease.

Applies mandatory coverage requirement to accident and health insurance policies under Chapter 431, hospital and medical service plan contracts under Chapter 432, health maintenance organization plans under Chapter 432D, and all health benefits plans under Chapter 87A.

Exempts policies providing coverage for specified diseases or other limited benefit coverage from the mandatory coverage requirement.

Establishes coverage requirement effective upon the Act's approval and applies retroactively to all health benefits plans under Chapter 87A that were issued, renewed, modified, altered, or amended before the effective date.
