Amends Section 704-404, Hawaii Revised Statutes, to clarify provisions for appointing examiners to evaluate defendants' fitness to proceed in criminal cases.

In felony cases, requires appointment of at least one psychiatrist and one licensed psychologist, with the third examiner being a psychiatrist, licensed psychologist, or qualified physician, all selected from a certified list maintained by the department of health.

Changes language to allow defendants to be "transferred" (rather than "committed") to hospitals or suitable facilities for examination, subject to section 334-74 regarding transfer of correctional facility residents and inter-agency agreements between the department of health and department of public safety.

Removes the thirty-day limitation on examination periods, giving the court discretion to determine necessary examination duration.

Takes effect on July 1, 2050.
