SB434 Summary

• Requires the Hawaii State Energy Office, Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism (DBEDT), and the Office of the Governor to develop a strategic plan with benchmarks to achieve 100% renewable energy by December 31, 2045.

• Strategic plan must identify clear, measurable benchmarks and metrics for utilities, utility-scale developers, and energy distributors to guide planning toward the 100% renewable energy goal, including consideration of temporary bridge fuels.

• DBEDT must submit the strategic plan to the legislature no later than twenty days before the convening of the 2018 regular legislative session, including proposed statutory amendments to codify the plan into law.

• Takes effect upon approval.
