The Hawaii Senate endorses and adopts the United Nations' seventeen sustainable development goals as a framework for addressing social justice and sustainability efforts in the state.

The Legislature urges all county councils to endorse and use the UN's seventeen sustainable development goals as measurements for each county's efforts regarding people, peace, and the planet.

The seventeen goals include: no poverty, zero hunger, good health and well-being, quality education, gender equality, clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, decent work and economic growth, industry innovation and infrastructure, reduced inequalities, sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production, climate action, life below water, life on land, peace justice and strong institutions, and partnerships for the goals.

Certified copies of the resolution shall be transmitted to federal officials, the UN Secretary-General, the Governor, county mayors and council chairs, and state agency heads including the Departments of Health, Human Services, Public Safety, and the University of Hawaii System leadership.

The resolution acknowledges Hawaii's existing involvement in climate protection efforts and notes that Hawaii youth created a video about the sustainable development goals that was premiered at the December 2015 UN Climate Change Conference.
