HB 130 Summary

• Establishes an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) residency program within the University of Hawaii Center for Nursing as a 6-9 month training program for newly graduated APRNs.

• Designates the dean of the UH School of Nursing and Dental Hygiene to develop and implement the program in cooperation with nursing organizations, medical residency programs, hospitals, and clinics statewide.

• Limits residency eligibility to graduates of accredited nursing programs with current unencumbered APRN licensure in Hawaii and less than 12 months of experience in their field.

• Requires APRNs completing the residency program to commit to two years of full-time employment at the facility where the residency occurred.

• Appropriates unspecified general revenue funds for fiscal years 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 to support one program coordinator and one clinical placement coordinator position, effective July 1, 2017.
