H.B. 1406 - Practice of Pharmacy

• Adds "furnish" or "furnishing" to Hawaii Revised Statutes Section 461-1, defined as supplying medications by any means, by sale or otherwise

• Expands pharmacist scope to independently order drug therapy-related laboratory tests without requiring a collaborative agreement with physicians or advanced practice registered nurses

• Authorizes pharmacists to administer immunizations to persons 18 years and older, and to persons 14-17 years under section 461-11.4, with required reporting to the state immunization registry within five business days

• Permits pharmacists to furnish opioid antagonists, epinephrine auto-injectors, hormonal contraception, travel medications, and tobacco cessation nicotine replacement therapy with appropriate training, removing the prior requirement for written collaborative agreements with physicians

• Effective date July 1, 2090
