Appropriates funds from general revenues for fiscal years 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 to develop, test, and evaluate unmanned aerial system (drone) technologies through the University of Hawaii's applied research laboratory.

Funds to be expended by the department of business, economic development, and tourism for advocacy, promotion, development, testing, and evaluation of unmanned aerial systems.

Legislature finds unmanned aerial systems have potential applications across Hawaii's economy including film, agriculture, tourism, public safety, public health, and education.

Appropriation intended to generate awareness products, promote community involvement, and create pathways for statewide implementation of unmanned aerial system technologies.

Effective date: July 1, 2030.
