• Appropriates $4,145,695 from general revenues for fiscal year 2018-2019 to the Department of Health for the kupuna care program, which provides home and community-based services to elderly residents.

• Kupuna care program provides nine core services including personal care, homemaking, chores, meal delivery, adult day care, case management, and transportation to seniors needing assistance with daily living activities.

• Funds are in addition to existing budget and cannot replace the executive office on aging's base budget allocation.

• Legislation addresses Hawaii's rapidly aging population, with adults over 60 projected to comprise 29.7% of the state population by 2035, and those over 85 having grown 431.5% between 1980-2010.

• Takes effect July 1, 2018.
