Adds an alternative recertification path for nurse aides working in state-licensed or state-certified health care settings (other than Medicare or Medicaid certified nursing facilities) by allowing them to complete either a competency evaluation OR eight hours of dementia training with a passing competency exam.

Maintains the existing requirement that nurse aides must be employed in a state-licensed or state-certified health care setting during the biennial recertification process.

Eliminates the mandatory competency evaluation as the sole recertification option, replacing it with two alternative pathways to increase the pool of certified nurse aides serving patients with Alzheimer's disease and related dementia.

Takes effect on July 1, 2019.
