H.B. 2058 - Mental Health Counselors Licensure

• Amends Section 453D-7, Hawaii Revised Statutes, to modify practicum experience requirements for mental health counselor licensure to accommodate different coursework structures.

• Changes supervised mental health practicum requirements from 3 semester hours or 5 quarter hours per academic term to 6 semester hours or 10 quarter hours total across at least two academic terms, while maintaining the 300 hours of supervised client contact requirement.

• Removes the "per academic term" language to allow flexibility in how practicum hours are distributed across the required two or more academic terms.

• Maintains all other licensure qualifications including the 48 semester hours or 72 quarter hours of graduate coursework in nine specific areas, 3,000 hours of post-graduate experience, and passage of the National Counselor Examination.

• Takes effect on July 1, 2018.
