H.B. 2181 Summary

• Establishes December 7 of each year as Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day to honor the 2,403 service members and civilians killed during the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.

• Encourages teachers in Hawaii to observe the day with appropriate exercises and lessons, and encourages residents to solemnly contemplate the lives lost and sacrifices made.

• Requires all state agencies and political subdivisions to fly the United States flag at half-mast on December 7 each year in honor of Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.

• Specifies that Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day is not and shall not be construed as a state holiday.
