• Reduces the timeframe for individuals denied a firearm permit to voluntarily surrender firearms and ammunition from thirty days to forty-eight hours from receipt of notice.

• Changes the trigger for the forty-eight hour deadline from when notice was mailed to when notice is actually received.

• Requires persons disqualified from firearm ownership to surrender firearms and ammunition within forty-eight hours of receiving notice of disqualification, including notice from criminal conviction, restraining orders, or permit denial.

• Authorizes the chief of police to seize firearms and ammunition if an individual fails to voluntarily surrender or dispose of them within the forty-eight hour timeframe.

• Takes effect upon approval.
