HI HB2299

Authorizes the University of Hawaii Board of Regents or its designee to agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless county agencies, officers, agents, and employees for university purposes and functions on county property without requiring governor approval.

Requires the University of Hawaii president (or designee) to approve indemnity provisions in writing following a favorable review by the university general counsel or the counsel's designee.

Requires the University of Hawaii chief financial officer to obtain sufficient insurance coverage under section 304A-108 or determine that insurance is not in the university's best interest before indemnification agreements are executed.

Clarifies that indemnification provisions do not expand the liability of the University of Hawaii beyond chapters 661 and 662, and does not waive the university's sovereign immunity under the Eleventh Amendment.

Takes effect July 1, 2018.
