HB 2342 Summary

• Eliminates fees charged by consumer credit reporting agencies for placing, lifting, or removing security freezes on consumer credit reports.

• Expands methods for requesting security freezes to include first-class mail, telephone calls, and secure websites, in addition to existing methods.

• Removes requirement that only identity theft victims can place security freezes; allows any resident to place a freeze on their credit report.

• Eliminates fees for placing or removing security freezes on protected consumers' credit reports or records, and removes requirement for representatives to pay fees when acting on behalf of protected consumers.

• Effective date: July 1, 2018.
