H.B. 2443 - Accessible Playgrounds Pilot Program

• Establishes a three-year accessible playgrounds pilot program under the Department of Land and Natural Resources to provide recreation opportunities for children of all abilities.

• Requires creation of at least one accessible playground in each county on state parks, designed and constructed in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design.

• Mandates each playground accommodate disabled children of all ages and their adult caregivers, with sufficient amenities including parking and bathrooms.

• Requires the department to obtain community input before design or construction, comply with county zoning regulations, and complete playgrounds by January 1, 2021.

• Authorizes the department to partner with private entities and counties for funding and implementation, and requires a report to the legislature by twenty days prior to the 2022 regular session.
