Appropriates $1,000,000 from general revenues to the University of Hawaii at Hilo College of Pharmacy for fiscal year 2018-2019 for rat lungworm disease prevention and eradication programs.

Funds programs to develop integrated pest management plans, monitor invasive mollusk and paratenic hosts for infection, and test deworming rats to reduce transmission.

Supports development of blood-based diagnostic tests for rat lungworm to replace invasive spinal tap procedures and improve early detection.

Funds laboratory testing of produce washes, water filters, and ultraviolet systems for effectiveness against rat lungworm contamination in catchment water systems.

Establishes educational outreach initiatives targeting rural rainwater catchment users, kindergarten through twelfth grade school personnel, farmers, and school garden projects regarding rat lungworm prevention and integrated pest management.
