University of Hawaii shall conduct a study on the effects of sunscreen used by swimmers and ocean users on Hawaii's coral reefs.

Study shall include recommendations on how to mitigate detrimental effects of sunscreen on coral while considering impacts on residents and visitors.

Appropriates funds from general revenues for fiscal year 2017-2018 to support the sunscreen study (specific amount not filled in).

University of Hawaii must submit a preliminary report to the legislature no later than twenty days before the 2018 regular session and a final report no later than twenty days before the 2019 regular session, with possible proposed legislation included.

Act takes effect July 1, 2017.
