Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs requested to convene a midwifery regulatory working group to study and develop a plan for defining midwifery, establishing licensure, and creating data collection and peer review processes for all midwives in Hawaii.

Working group membership includes the DCCA Director, Senate Committee on Commerce Consumer Protection and Health Chairperson, House Committee on Health and Human Services Chairperson, American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists Hawaii Section Chairperson, Midwives Alliance of Hawaii President, a representative for uncertified midwives designated by Papa Ola Lokahi, and Legislative Reference Bureau representative.

Working group members requested to elect a chairperson, vice chairperson, and other necessary officers from among the members.

Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs requested to provide administrative support to the working group.

Working group must report findings, recommendations, and any proposed legislation to the Legislature no later than twenty days prior to the 2019 Regular Session convening, and shall cease to exist on June 30, 2019.
