HCR 70 Summary

• Request that the Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism establish the International Moon Base Alliance Committee to develop recommendations for lunar architecture on the island of Hawaii

• Committee shall comprise representatives from government, industry, and research institutions, including Hawaii-based aerospace organizations, NASA, federal agencies, space advocacy groups, and international space organizations

• Committee invitations extended without compensation to entities including the Pacific International Space Center for Exploration Systems, NASA Ames and Johnson Space Centers, FAA, and global space agencies

• Department requested to submit interim report to Legislature no later than twenty days before the 2019 Regular Session and final report no later than twenty days before the 2020 Regular Session

• Resolution recognizes Hawaii's strategic location, aerospace expertise, moon-like terrain, and potential to create jobs through research in telecommunications, power generation, food production, and life support systems for space exploration
