Insurance Commissioner is requested to assess the adequacy of physician networks serving Medicaid/QUEST and EUTF covered patients on all islands of the State.

Assessment should include cooperation and information from the John A. Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawaii and comprehensive health insurance providers in the State.

Insurance Commissioner must submit a report of findings and recommendations, including any proposed legislation, to the Legislature no later than January 1, 2019.

Resolution addresses documented shortage of physicians on neighbor islands, with patients reporting extended wait times and requiring airline trips to Oahu for specialty care.

Certified copies to be transmitted to the Director of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, Insurance Commissioner, Dean of the John A. Burns School of Medicine, and presidents of Hawaii Medical Service Association, Kaiser Permanente Hawaii, and Hawaii Medical Association.
