Department of Education requested to convene a working group by July 1, 2018 to review afterschool programs in Hawaii's public schools.

Working group to conduct comprehensive review including inventory of existing programs, funding analysis, quality recommendations, data management system development, and alignment of funding schedules with school calendars.

Superintendent of Education to serve as chairperson and invite 16 designated members including representatives from Human Services, Health, school principals, afterschool program providers, Hawaii Afterschool Alliance, Chamber of Commerce, and Hawaii State Teachers Association.

Department of Education to establish an Afterschool Program Advisory Council within the Community Engagement Office to support implementation of working group findings.

Department must submit working group findings, recommendations, and any proposed legislation to the legislature no later than 20 days before the 2019 Regular Session convenes.
