HI SB1170

Requires state agencies, the auditor, judiciary, legislative reference bureau, and Office of Hawaiian Affairs to submit reports from legislatively-appropriated studies and audits to the chair of the applicable subject matter committee in each chamber.

Mandates that committee chairs conduct a public hearing or informational briefing on submitted reports within one year of receiving them.

Allows the president of the senate or speaker of the house to grant a one-year extension or waive the hearing requirement upon request, with reasons for such extensions or waivers posted on the legislature's website and noticed at the state capitol.

Designates existing sections 21-1 to 21-19 of Hawaii Revised Statutes as Part I ("Investigating Committees") and adds a new part requiring procedures for consideration of mandated reports.

Takes effect upon approval.
