Amends Hawaii Revised Statutes Section 704-404 regarding court-ordered examinations of defendants' fitness to proceed in criminal prosecutions.

In felony cases, requires courts to appoint three qualified examiners (at least one psychiatrist and one licensed psychologist, with a third who may be either profession or a qualified physician), with one examiner designated by the director of health.

In nonfelony cases, allows courts to appoint either a psychiatrist or licensed psychologist as examiner, with all examiners selected from a department of health certified list.

Clarifies that defendants may be transferred to hospitals or suitable facilities for examination pursuant to existing transfer statutes or agreements between the department of health and department of public safety.

Removes language restricting examination periods to thirty days or longer court-determined periods.

Takes effect July 1, 2050.
