SB2005 Summary

• Increases the required years of active contracting experience for contractor board members from 5 years to 10 years preceding appointment.

• Requires all contractor board members to hold a valid and unexpired contractor license at the time of appointment.

• Adds three public members to the board who cannot be contractors, have no family members who are licensees, and have no financial interest in any licensed contractor business.

• Requires all board members to have been residents and domiciled in Hawaii for no fewer than 5 years before appointment.

• Establishes that protection of the public shall be the highest priority of the board in its licensing, regulatory, and disciplinary functions, taking priority over other interests.
