S.B. 2180 Summary

• Amends Section 701-109, Hawaii Revised Statutes, to clarify that defendants may be convicted of lesser included offenses in cases filed via felony complaint, in addition to indictment or information.

• Expands the definition of offenses included in a charged offense to explicitly reference "felony complaint" alongside indictment and information in criminal proceedings.

• Does not affect rights, duties, penalties, or proceedings that were begun before the effective date of the act.

• Takes effect on July 1, 2018.
