HI SB2220

Prohibits employers from suspending, discharging, or discriminating against employees who are registered qualifying patients authorized for medical use of cannabis under Hawaii law and test positive for cannabis in substance abuse screening tests.

Creates exceptions to the cannabis protection that allow employers to take action against employees who fail or refuse to report for laboratory substance abuse testing, violate cannabis use restrictions, or are law enforcement officers or work in state correctional facilities.

Amends Hawaii Revised Statutes Section 378-32(a) to add cannabis protections as subsection (5) to existing unlawful employment discrimination prohibitions.

Takes effect upon approval.
